Yes! Medical marijuana is legal in Texas. The Texas government passed the Compassionate Use Act for medical marijuana for the treatment of epilepsy and seizure disorders in 2015. The act has since expanded its legal use to include PTSD, all forms of cancer, neurological disease and other conditions.
What are the benefits of medical marijuana?
Medical marijuana may help with symptoms associated with many medical conditions while putting the patient at lower risk for kidney or liver issues compared to other commonly prescribed medications. It may provide better relief than pharmaceutical options for many patients.
Texas currently only allows the use of medical cannabis for these conditions and neurological disease. Some of the symptoms treated with medical marijuana include anxiety, depression, pain, fatigue, insomnia, muscle spasms, and nausea.
How do I use medical cannabis?
Texas currently has banned use of all smokable forms including vaping; however dispensaries in Texas offer medical cannabis in the form of gummies, lozenges, drinks, lotions, and tinctures.
Can I travel out of state with my medical marijuana?
No, you cannot travel out of state with medical marijuana obtained in Texas since transporting marijuana across state lines is considered a federal crime. Even though Texas has approved cannabis for medical use, the federal government still considers possession of marijuana illegal.
Why should I use Dr. Rogers Centers physician to obtain medical cannabis when I have access to marijuana through other means?
Many people wonder why they would need to see a physician to obtain medical marijuana when they have access to it through other means such as friends. The three main reasons are:
- Possession of marijuana in Texas is illegal unless it is obtained from a physician through the Texas Compassionate Use Program.
- A Dr. Rogers physician will personalize your treatment plan specific to you and your individual needs. The same dosage and combination of THC and CBD does not work the same for everybody.

No, patients qualified for medical marijuana in the State of Texas do not receive a physical medical card. You only need a government issued ID to receive medical marijuana from a Texas dispensary. If you need a caregiver to pick up your medical marijuana for you, our Dr. Rogers physicians can add their information to your profile. You can also choose to have your medical marijuana delivered to your home.
What is the difference between “cannabis” and “marijuana”?
The term “cannabis” and “marijuana” are basically the same thing with some minor differences. Cannabis refers to certain types of flowering plants and marijuana refers to a specific type of cannabis plant that contains high amounts of THC. In the medical field, these terms are commonly used interchangeably.
What is a Texas medical marijuana/cannabis dispensary?
Texas medical marijuana/cannabis dispensaries are licensed by the State of Texas to provide medical marijuana to patients. These dispensaries can deliver your medical cannabis to you or you can visit the physical location to obtain your medication.
How do I obtain my medical marijuana products after I am approved for the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas?
Once you complete a visit with a Dr. Rogers physician and are qualified to receive medical marijuana, your information will be entered into the Compassionate use Registry of Texas database. You can then contact a licensed Texas dispensary to coordinate a delivery of your medical marijuana or pick it up in-person.
